We would like to introduce you to Khun Toey Suthipha Khamyam, the artist behind the Indie Summer flower illustration that has become emblematic of Moose Indie Summer. She defines herself as an illustrator who is interested in nature in which she expresses them through her artwork along with other three words she uses to describe herself. She chooses: trees, wind, and moon. She explains that she sees the tree as something ordinary, but wonderful. The wind is invisible yet has energy. And she chooses the moon because it's simply beautiful. And these three things define her art as well as they are obviously shown.
In the perspective of life as an artist of hers, she said that intentionally doing something or slowly creating something with deep intention is what the word “craft” means and that her art is also her craft. She takes time and effort for each and every artwork of hers. Most of her inspiration comes from her personal experience and being surrounded by nature. Seeing and being in the midst of nature is where she feels inspired the most and that’s also how her art is being created.
Her design process juxtaposes the big and small pictures to find the best focus and direction. She often looks at the big picture first and then focuses on the small spots. But on the way, she always goes back and looks at the big picture again then comes back to focus on a small point to narrow down the direction. Now we understand why art takes so much time to be delicately created.
Khun Toey can't tell which work is the most successful or she is most proud of. Because each work was the best in certain ways and at certain times. If it’s not the best for her at that moment she wouldn't release it publicly and she cherishes every work she has done, because it was her idea, time and effort. That’s why her work that we see nowadays are all truly impressive, unique and captivating.
As for Khun Toey's lifestyle, she said that nowadays, what excites her the most is the uncertainty of things because everything changes all the time. And she chooses to adjust and learn along the way which she found exciting. And she is very optimistic about this, she thinks this kind of circumstance is beneficial not a disadvantage. We’re surprised to hear this, because it is true, life is uncertain and we should go with the flow.
Relaxing by living quietly in the simple comfort of nature amidst the peaceful atmosphere is what she calls a perfect summer. And the place that she likes the most is home since it's comfortable, settled and restful, that is her favorite summer spot. Furthermore, she wants to try something without thinking, no need to plan ahead and do not have to think about the consequences. Just do it without being afraid of others' opinions about her, that’s one thing she’s always wanted to try but been too scared to do.
Khun Toey began her Indie Summer journey by defining three words inspired by its unique taste. They are: mellow, friendly and magical. Her Indie Summer flowers are inspired by these three words. The word “mellow” derives from the soft, light, and smoky feeling. “Friendly” comes from a warm and soft feeling with a hint of welcoming tartness. And the last word, “magical”, comes from the tangy flavor, with a deep tranquility that is full of surprises and activity. When it comes to food, Khun Toei said that her favorite dish to try with Moose Indie Summer is spicy Indian curry. Finishing off with a song that reminds her of Indie Summer, she said she is currently addicted to Soak's ‘Country Air’ which she heard when she was camping in Sweden earlier this year.
